Lucca
The medieval town of Lucca is located in Northern Tuscany in a region rich of vineyards, rolling hills, lemons, olive groves, and marble capped mountains.
Thanks to the silk trade in 12th century Lucca became very prosperous and was always independent. Perhaps the sense of tranquil well-being you can feel walking in Town is due to the lengthy periods of peace that Lucca has enjoyed throughout the history, a peace mostly guaranteed by the intact 16th-century defensive walls that still embrace the city. The top of the walls have been converted into a long and beautiful park where you can enjoy the peace of the countryside even if you are in the city center. Henry James in "Italian Hours", referring to the walls said: "a circular lounging place of a splendid dignity".
Lucca has some of the best Gothic and Romanesque architectures of Tuscany and this together with the good food of the many typical restaurants makes Lucca a really special place to get married.
